Who we are
Discover Luoyang is an independent English-language travel guide to Luoyang (洛阳), the ancient capital of China, created for international visitors who want to explore the city with confidence. The site is produced by the Discover Luoyang Editorial Team — a small group of writers and researchers who focus on one subject only: making Luoyang easy, rewarding and safe to visit as a foreign traveller.
Our mission
Luoyang is one of China’s great historical cities — the capital of 13 dynasties, home to the UNESCO-listed Longmen Grottoes and the cradle of Chinese Buddhism — yet most international visitors skip it in favour of Beijing and Xi’an. Our mission is to change that: to give foreign travellers the practical, honest information they need to include Luoyang in their China trip, and to help them understand what they are seeing when they get here.
How we work
Every guide on this site follows the same approach:
- Practical first. We lead with what you actually need to know — how to get there, how long you need, what it costs, where the entrance is, what the crowds are like — before the history and background.
- Grounded in history and culture. Luoyang’s sights make far more sense with context. We explain the dynasties, the art and the stories behind the stones so a visit becomes meaningful rather than a checklist.
- Written for foreign visitors. We assume you are new to China. Where things work differently from what you are used to — tickets, payments, language, transport — we say so plainly.
- Honest about limitations. When a fact (such as a ticket price or train timetable) changes often, we say it may change and tell you how to verify it, rather than presenting stale figures as definitive.
Our editorial standards
- No invented people or claims. We do not present fictional founders, staff, awards or partnerships. All content is written and reviewed by the Discover Luoyang Editorial Team.
- Accuracy is a process, not a promise. We research from official and reputable sources, cross-check practical details before publication, and review and update pages as information changes. Prices, opening hours and timetables should always be re-verified before you travel.
- Transparency. If you spot something out of date or wrong, tell us — see the contact page. Corrections are part of how we keep this site trustworthy.
What this site is not
Discover Luoyang is a travel information website. We are not a booking platform, a travel agency or a tour operator. We do not sell tickets or hotel rooms directly. Where we describe tours and guide services on the tours pages, these are described as options for you to arrange; we do not process payments for them through this site.
